2013: Dasra

Founded in 1999, Dasra, which means ‘enlightened giving’ in Sanskrit, has grown to become India’s leading strategic philanthropy foundation. Dasra’s success lies in its unique ability to bring together the two crucial stakeholders in catalysing social change: social entrepreneurs who deliver change on the field and philanthropists who enable change through knowledge, funding and networks. Over the past 13 years, Dasra has strengthened the growth plans of more than 200 successful non profits and social businesses, engaged with and educated over 250 philanthropists on strategic philanthropy, enabled over USD 20 million funding to social entrepreneurs and published 11 research reports in education, health and livelihoods.

2012: Devdaya Charity and the BC Mehta Trust work together to tackle preventable childhood blindness in Gujurat.

The second highest incidence of blindness in children in the world is in India. Every year, 50,000 new cases of blindness are registered in Gujurat. What is astonishing is 80% of blindness is avoidable and it costs only a few pounds to prevent it. Childhood blindness is four times higher in poorer families than affluent families.

The BC Mehta Trust provided Devdaya with a mobile eye clinic which will help address all children eye care needs and is a great solution for children in rural villages who cannot access a hospital. In five years time we expect Gujarat will have the lowest childhood blindness compared to any other state of India
